Research Interest

I am interested in the intricate and complex interactions between organisms. I am studying a fungal-bacterial symbiosis system for my Ph.D. dissertation in the Bruns Lab where lots of fun thing happen.

My previous work had been in the yeasts that live in the gut of beetles and other insects with Dr. Meredith Blackwell. I worked mainly with Neuropterans (lacewings, fishflies, dobsonflies) and found interesting groups of yeasts that reside within their guts, including novel species.

I also have an interest in plants and spent a rotation period doing research on the phylogeny of the genus Allium in the Specht Lab. My other interests range widely with overlapping fields. There is much to learn about the natural world and we must utilize our time most efficiently. Therefore, I am always open to collaborations with fellow graduate students or anyone who wants to collaborate on projects that could potentially lead to publications.

Recreational Interests

I really enjoy outdoors/nature related stuff like hiking, camping, and roadtrips. While in the outdoors settings, I always have a camera on hand for nature photography. I love photography and treat each new photograph as as if it was a rare new item to add to my collection. I also like a good mix of indoors stuff and that include cooking, guitar, and painting. Ahhh...FOOD...I also really enjoy collecting insects and had been working on a collection since my sophomore year in high school. On occasions when time permits, I also really enjoy writing websites.
